One of the biggest dilemmas that leaves parents feeling less than merry every school holiday is what to do with the children. This is especially the case when the children are in part time nursery school, or they are in a school where they are not in attendance around the clock. Ensuring that you find a kids holiday club is going to support both you and your child.
The chances are high that you’re not just at home, and able to complete all tasks when it comes to childcare. You need to come up with a plan to make sure that whether you do a holiday club or not, your child is cared for. Read on and take a look at some of the options for childcare during the holidays, and the things that you need to consider.
Coordinate Schedules With Others
When it comes to parenting, you need a village around you to get things done. Break out the family calendar and work with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to coordinate childcare. On your days off, you can offer to babysit your friends’ children, looking after them while they work and vice versa. You could coordinate all of your calendars together, and figure out annual leave, so that you are all able to cover the children without having to pay out too much for camps. Holiday club is also a great option because if you can afford it, it is somewhere your children can continue to learn and engage.
Look At All Your Commitments
Unfortunately, the powers that be did not consider how children need supervision, with annual leave entitlements a difficult subject. While you, your partner and your babysitter may be able to cover childcare between you, you have to consider other commitments. Make sure that you are completely covered for childcare options including the kids holiday club, so you can get the kids to and from the club that they are part of.
Speak To A Childminder
If you are nervous about getting your children to and from the holiday club, speak to childminders. Plenty of childminders offer a pick up and drop off service rather than a full round the clock care service. This can be super handy if you are stuck at work, and can’t pick up the kids at 3pm holiday club closing time. Again, coordinate your schedule so that everybody understands where the children are going to be and who is going to be looking after them and when.
Maximise Your Family Time
If you are in the position of being able to look after your own children around the clock, maximise that family time on your annual leave days off. On the days where they’re in the holiday club, get your house admin done and your work done – because otherwise you’re going to want to spend as much of this occasion with your children as possible, when you have time with you and your partner. Quality time matters.
