Nobody likes a rainy day, anyone who lives in the UK knows that it’s pretty much impossible to avoid, especially during winter. With the fair weather months still being a little while off, if you’re a parent it can be tough to continually think of fun activities to keep your little ones entertained when they can’t just go and play outside. Fear not, however, as we’ve put together this list of five indoor activities for the whole family to enjoy that will make you cherish those wet weather days.
1. Baking
Baking is not only a fun activity to fill a rainy afternoon with, but it’s also an effective (not to mention delicious) way to help your child practise their fine motor skills, as well as teach them about sharing, kitchen safety and where ingredients come from. There are tons of simple recipes out there that the whole family can get involved with making.
2. Visit an Aquarium or Child-Friendly Museum
Why not take advantage of a rainy day by using it to go on a fun, educational day out? Paying a visit to your local aquarium or child-friendly museum – science museums are great in this respect as they have interactive exhibits and shows with experiments – will have your little ones mesmerised for hours at a time. A great day out for the whole family!
3. Play Board Games
An absolute classic rainy day activity – board games are a great way to spend time together, and they’re also good for teaching your little ones about turn-taking. From Monopoly to Connect Four, there’s hours of fun to be had.
4. Make a Pillow Fort
Pillow forts are a great way to entertain kids on rainy days. They’re easy to make and can be lots of fun to play in. All you really need is a few pillows, some blankets and furniture to support the fort. Once you have your materials, stack the pillows and blankets up to create walls and a roof, then use furniture to prop up the walls and stop the fort from collapsing. Once your fort is built, your little ones can act out imaginative play stories or enjoy quiet time with a book or some toys.
5. Attend a Kids Club
If you find that your weekend plans have been rained off, why not attend a kids club in your local area? If you’re based in Hedge End or Eastleigh, Little Acorns Day Nursery hosts a children’s club on the first Saturday morning of each month. Our sessions grant parents the opportunity to spend quality time with their children by joining them in our nursery for a few hours. With plenty of parent and child activities set up, you’ll find yourself continually supported by our experienced team in a non-judgemental environment, allowing you to gain confidence in your parenting. Bonding with your child is crucial for their future development, so be sure to join us at our Saturday Morning Club and set them up to thrive! For more information, please get in touch.
