When your child reaches the age where they are ready to attend nursery, it can be a big change in both a parent’s life and the child’s. Starting nursery can be a big adjustment for everyone so it is important to take things slow and prepare accordingly to help ease the transition for your child and yourself.
Here are some tips that Little Acorns Day Nursery have put together to help prepare your child for nursery.
Talk It Through
Make sure you start to talk about nursery and what it entails with your child in advance. This will give them more time to come to terms with it. Try to hype up the facilities they can expect and talk about all the new friends they are going to make, with emphasis on how fun it is going to be!
Go On A Tour
Springing the nursery on your child the first day might lead to them feeling overwhelmed. If possible try and arrange a tour of the nursery before they go for real, so they can have a look around and see what they might get up to once there. Some nurseries will offer open days beforehand where your child can meet the staff and see what everything looks like.
Establish Routines
Try to establish a routine for your child before nursery even begins. You can get them used to getting up at a certain time to get ready for the day and talk them through what the routines might be like at the nursery.
Stay Strong On The First Day
It is very tough to leave your child on their first day, and you probably will both be upset. But it is important to stay strong. When dropping them off try to stay as calm as possible and reassure them you will be back later to pick them up. Try not to get too emotional in front of them. Maybe make some plans for the rest of the day as a distraction, and be on time to pick them up when the day ends.
